Broadway Tower

1 April 2002

We set out to look round St Eadburgha’s Church, near Broadway

But after walking round the outside, found that it was locked

We bought some snowdrop bulbs from the house opposite, and were told that there had been a theft from the church recently

We decided to drive on instead to Broadway Tower

An 18th century folly built for his wife by the Earl of Coventry, Broadway Tower commands views of some 13 counties

Nowadays, the grounds also accommodate an adventure playground and farm park

Some shaggy inhabitants of the latter

During the war, the site was occupied by the Royal Observer Corps

Juliet in an observation post

From the top, the visitors look down on Roger

Juliet bids farewell
