March

Jay had another school trip, just for a long weekend, to see the First World War sites and cemeteries in Belgium, including Hill 60, the Somme and Vimy Ridge.

March sees Cheltenham’s busiest day of the year:  the Gold Cup at Prestbury Park racecourse, which we have to drive past to get Jay to and from her violin lesson.  Normally we cancel the latter if the date clashes, but not this year with an exam looming.  We manage to avoid the traffic, but only by dint of a lengthy diversion on to the motorway to get back to Tewkesbury.

Jay’s Saturday orchestra held its major annual concert in Pittville Pump Rooms, preceded by a couple of days’ intensive rehearsal.  They gave a creditable performance climaxing with Mussorgsky’s ‘Night on a Bare Mountain’.

The final day of the month saw Teresa’s birthday and Helen’s return for a few days; and, as it was the first warm day of the year, a long overdue cleaning of the car.
