July

A busy month for bowls, Roger at one stage having commitments on ten successive days.

The annual one-day tournament for teams in the Triples League was held on Sunday 11.  Overbury’s A team were beaten into second place by the narrow margin of two shots, after finishing equal on points with the winners, Evesham.  Here is Roger and his rink holding the Runners Up trophy.

Otherwise, Overbury’s triples team remained in contention in the league itself (but only just).  However, Roger’s run in club competitions came to an end.

We started visiting Oxford during the month to look for flats for Jay when she starts her D Phil studies in October.   We quickly discovered that Headington is quite an expensive area as it is home to the John Radcliffe and the Churchill hospitals and to Oxford Brookes University, so she is going to have to pay rather more than we hoped.  By the end of the month we had seen one flat which might suit.

We started to lift the potatoes we grow in pots on the patio (and just a few in the garden).  A good crop from the pots which have the advantage of being completely pest free.
