September

We had a short break at Alton Towers from Monday 6, returning on Wednesday 8.  Despite dire weather forecasts in the week leading up to our trip, we only had one brief, if heavy, outbreak of rain on the second afternoon, otherwise reasonable, though not shirt-sleeve, temperatures and a fair amount of sunshine.  Satnav again took the pain out of route finding – bringing us back via Kenilworth and Warwick, avoiding motorways and heavy traffic and in little more than three hours.

Our visit to Alton Towers

We were otherwise preoccupied during the month with securing and preparing to occupy a flat for Jay in Oxford.  On Monday 20 we formally took possession, and visited again on Friday 24 and Thursday 30, when she actually moved in.  Though small, it is well appointed:

Sitting area                                                        Kitchen area                                                     Shower room                                       Bedroom

She is about five minutes walk from work and within 15 minutes of the Headington shops, and buses to more distant venues run from just over the road – except to her new college, Wolfson, which requires a bit of a walk at each end.

Meanwhile, Roger’s bowling season came to an end in fine, if rather cool, weather.  Roger organized the play for the closing of the green on Sunday 26, when 46 bowlers took to the green and a further half dozen watched.  After the game, our Club President (and landlord) presented the competition prizes, before the usual bring and share tea.  Indoor bowls at Littleton started the following week.
