Alton Towers

7 – 8 September 2011

We left home a little earlier this year but (mistakenly) made an extra stop on the motorway, so it was

again on the dot of 8 am when we pulled into the park

It had been a wet drive, but things were about to improve . . .

. . . and, by the time we compared footwear, the rain

had stopped

Still cool and grey as Teresa and Juliet head off to the Runaway Mine Train, always available for early riders who are staying in the hotel

They again manage to get the front seats

Next it’s down to Air, Teresa’s favourite.  Don’t be fooled by the photograph – Roger’s not here for the ride

Again Teresa and Jay bag the front seats

Teresa and Roger agree to play Duel – looks as if it’s going to be serious . . .

. . . and this time it’s Roger who emerges victorious

and Teresa who is cross

Next to the water rides – Roger and Teresa shooting the rapids . . .

. . . while Teresa and Jay brace themselves

for the Flume’s big drop

After lunch the gentler pleasures of the Carousel

Roger seems delighted to have found the entrance to Squirrel Nutty

Views of the gardens from the Sky Ride  , , ,

. . . but rain on the second day as we pass

over the Dark Forest

Roger and Teresa relax on the Sky Ride

Back in the hotel, Roger reads while Teresa and Jay visit the Spa.

Later we visit the Splash Landings Hotel to try Flambo’s ‘all-you-can-eat’ dinner

On the second night we have dinner

in the main hotel . . .

Our selection of sweets

. . . and sit in the bar afterwards to watch the resident cabaret

Breakfast on the final morning – Roger gets

his toast right at last

We have a final look round the hotel and Jay also

visits the Spa again

Teresa and Jay  managed to shrink enough to visit the library

Roger takes a final stroll through the grounds

We again entrust ourselves to the sat nav  to find a leisurely and non-motorway back, returning to Old Forge House by mid afternoon
