December

Christmas activities started early in the month when Teresa and Jay went to look round the Broadway Christmas shopping evening on Friday 7, though in truth Teresa had already long since organised the provisions and presents.  But we did need to buy a Christmas tree, which we did the following day – fresh cut from a local farm.

Later on Saturday 8, Teresa, Jay and Helen met in Oxford and went to the Christmas evensong in Magdalen College chapel.

The Christmas lunch at the Lygon Arms in Broadway for members of the spa was on Thursday 14, and Helen went with Teresa, owing to Roger’s indisposition.  A very good lunch, though a little less lavish in extras and prizes than it had been the previous year.

Teresa and Jay made their traditional visit on Saturday 15 to Tewkesbury Abbey for a performance of Handel’s Messiah.

Following some hospital tests, Roger started a course of pills for his prostate problem, but progress was slow:  he did not resume his bowling, or arrange any long trips out.  However, he felt well enough in himself, and our Christmas at home went ahead as usual.  Both Helen and Jay came home for the week, and we all enjoyed Teresa’s wonderful meals and well chosen presents.

The year ended with Roger, Teresa and Jay seeing in the New Year with a glass of wine and a somewhat under-rehearsed rendition of ‘The Day Dawn’ on two violins.
