November
A
quiet month for Roger, but Teresa started in earnest to pull together the
threads for Christmas, planning for our food, presents and outings.
We
went in early for our ‘flu jabs and found it very quiet, as we did the
following week when voting for our PCC – though we saw a couple of other
voters, more than in some places, we read later.
We
made a few visits to
Only
one local trip is worth a mention: a
planned power cut had been scheduled for the morning of Wednesday 14, so we
decided to go to Evesham to do some shopping and have lunch. Returning after lunch, we parked the car on
the drive for Teresa’s use later, only to find we had left the front door keys
in the lock on the inside, thus barring our entry. No problem, we thought, as we went back to
the car and prepared to drive into the garage so we could enter via the back
door from which we had come out. But try
as we might, the remote control on the automatic garage doors just wouldn’t
work. And then the penny dropped. The power was still off – we had foolishly
locked ourselves out.
We
just stopped short of clambering over the side gate to try and force a window
at the back before Teresa suggested going to her spa in Broadway: though she was not kitted out for a swim, we
could at least have a coffee and read the paper while we waited. So this is what we did. Returning after a decent interval we saw the
power company van just leaving the road outside the house, and, after a few
further minutes of fruitless trying, we saw the courtesy light outside the
front door flash on, and we were able to open the garage doors.
