June

Teresa continued to get good value from the spa at the Lygon Arms in Broadway:  she has extended her activities from the pool to the gymnasium, where they have a wide range of equipment.  Her sessions now can include cycling and running, all the while watching her favourite television programmes.

We also continued to visit Oxford regularly, sometimes at the weekend to see Jay, but also, starting on Tuesday 16, for Teresa to take a six-week ice skating course.  These lessons have gone well to date, so Teresa will, no doubt, want to join Jay at the rink on some of our future visits.

We so much enjoyed our visit to Malvern in May that we returned on Sunday 9 so we could hear the brass band concert in full.  As before, we stopped off en route at a retail park to buy a picnic lunch, but also portable chairs to sit in.  It was the turn of the Alcester Victoria Silver Band, and we found a shady place to sit for the two hour concert.

The long-running saga of our leaky boiler continued following a letter to British Gas.  At the end of May, a senior engineer visited and acknowledged what we had long suspected:  that there was a fault in the boiler itself contributing to the continuing loss of pressure.  On Tuesday 11 two engineers returned to fix it.  Although we all hoped this would be end to the problem, we soon noticed that another, more visible leak, had developed as a result of the repair, and the engineer had to return on Friday 14 to fix this.  Unfortunately, it continued to seep, and the pressure continued to fall, so at the end of the month we were still not sure whether our troubles were over.

Roger’s main bowling interest during the month was the local Triples league, in which the team had made a good start to the season, leading the table at the halfway stage.  On Sunday 23 there was also a one-day tournament for teams in the league, held at the Aston Somerville club, and won by the Bredon A rink.

On Monday 24 Roger had his annual dental check-up.  Despite experiencing occasional twinges, he needed no major work this year.
