July
Helen
was at home for a few days at the beginning of the month. We made a few short local sorties – Broadway,
Hailes – had a barbecue, and, of course, spent some time watching
Roger
had his annual check up at the dentist:
though many of the teeth are long past their best, no treatment was
required.
Teresa
joined Roger in watching England’s totally dispiriting performance in the
football World Cup, but we enjoyed some of the knock-out matches.
Roger
spent the week of 14 participating in a clinical trial to investigate the
contribution, if any, of aspirin, which he has taken regularly for years, to
bleeding in the stomach. This involved
taking six large pills a day for a week:
they may have been antibiotics or placebos, but we won’t be told which
until all the results have been analysed in a couple of years’ time. Roger had to avoid alcohol for the week, but
suffered no notable side-effects from the treatment.
The
month was notable for a long spell of dry, sunny, and very warm weather, which
meant we were able to get the barbecue out a couple of times, and spent another
relaxing day watching the Band in the Park at Malvern.
