Home Diary 2016
July
A
busy month of bowls for Roger, particularly during the very warm weather in the
middle of the month, with both matches and club competitions. Helen spent the weekend of 9-10 at home, and
of course we watched the Wimbledon final.
On
Monday 11 Roger had his annual dental check-up, always approached with great
trepidation, but fortunately it passed without alarm.

On Sunday 17 we managed our first visit this year
to the Band in the Park concert in Malvern – a simple and relaxing pleasure in
the shadow of the Malvern Hills. It was a warm day, and the Tewkesbury Town
Band were both entertaining and topical.
They began with the Marsellaise in respect for and solidarity with the
French following the devastating atrocity in Nice, and finished with music from
the different countries of the United Kingdom – not sure whether this was in
defiance of, or in celebration of, the Brexit vote: perhaps the latter, as there was no Welsh
song, for which ‘Abide with me’ would have been an obvious choice.

On
Monday 18 Teresa spent a day in London
with Helen, and was very pleased with her tapas lunch at the Cut Bar in the
Young Vic.

On
Thursday 28 we set out for Snowshill with the aim of taking some photographs at
the lavender farm and at Broadway
Tower for possible entry
into the Photography section of this year’s Winchcombe show. Unfortunately, the light on a grey morning
was not good for photography, so we were unwilling to spend much time at the
lavender farm. We fared a little better
at Broadway Tower, trying a couple of trompe l’oeil shots of Roger and Teresa
holding up the tower. However our visit
was cut short by a very heavy shower which caught us far from the car-park and
soaked us to the skin.
