March

On Wednesday 9 we met Helen in Oxford.  We had tickets for the touring production of  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , which was back on its travels after a short break.  We have seen this production several times over the years and it just seems to get better – the Joseph this time had a particularly good voice and the Pharaoh played by a young Greek actor making his UK debut was brilliant.  Despite the rather small house at a matinee performance, the cast gave it all they’d got.  A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

We were lucky enough this year to receive a free family pass for Broadway Tower – the result of a previous visit a few years ago, but that’s a long story – and used it for the first time on Friday 11.  It was a fine but cool day.  We all climbed (very slowly in some cases) to the top of the tower and were rewarded by the sight of herd of deer grazing below us.  However, we were denied the famed views over 14 counties as the top of the tower was swathed in low cloud.  But quite an experience in its way.  We had coffee and cake, and bought a few souvenirs in the shop, before leaving after a very pleasant morning.

We returned home via the lovely little village of Blockley, its community run shop now in its own new building thanks to a lottery grant.  We couldn’t fail to be amused by the dog someone had tied up outside, which eagerly stood up for all passers-by and pretended to play the piano.

On Saturday 12 we teamed up with another couple for the bowls club quiz – the first for a few years we have not set ourselves.  A very good evening, with the room packed with full tables, tasty snacks at half-time and a close competition right to the end.  We didn’t quite make it on to the podium, but the raffle had enough prizes for everyone to go home with something.

On Tuesday 15 Teresa spent a day in London with Helen, partly to visit Teresa’s aunt, one of the few relatives we are still in touch with.  She had come through a bad experience recently, and  Helen has been providing some comforting visits.

Roger mowed the bowling green for the first time this year on Thursday 17, hard work but a welcome sign that the new season was just around the corner.

On Thursday 25 we said goodbye to Juliet for ten days as she set off for Boston for a short holiday with a friend, partly sight-seeing and partly to see the World Figure Skating championships.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday 30 Helen returned for a few days at home.  Teresa celebrated her birthday on Thursday 31 with a visit to the Fosseway Garden Centre in Moreton-in-Marsh, where we garnered a few items for the garden, but her celebration meal would wait until the weekend.
