May

After the warm, dry April, May was mostly cool and wet, with just the occasional fine spell thrown in.

Both on the early and the late Spring Bank Holidays we visited Broadway.  On Monday 7 we found a farmers’ market in the main street, and Teresa bought a couple of lavender plants.  We ended the visit with a ‘whippy’ ice cream each.

On Monday 28 we were lucky enough to arrive just as a band of morris men began to perform, and their jigs and steps enlivened a cool grey morning before we walked on.  The sun did break through but for once we eschewed the ice cream.

Teresa has taken to tapestry while watching television, and has acquired five of Henry VIII’s six wives (Anne of Cleves has proved elusive).  First to be completed:  Catherine of Aragon (left).

Roger’s bowls season was in full swing with both main league competitions under way – triples (three per side per rink) on Tuesdays and rinks (four per side per rink on Saturdays, mainly).

Juliet’s A levels started on Monday 21, but would be only occasional until mid-June.  From half-term onwards she was on study leave.

Helen has still been recovering from what her doctor now believed was a bout of glandular fever.  She came back for a break at the end of the month.  We were all pleased to find that by the time she returned to London she seemed considerably improved and planned to return to work, at least part-time to begin with.

With exams approaching, Jay had a quiet month with Clyde, and the horsebox was in any case waiting for its MOT, which we were pleased to find it passed without major expense just before the end of the month.
