July
On Friday
4 we visited Evesham – to see the museum and the river, rather than shopping.
Jay has
decided to have some orthodontic work done:
the treatment will take a year or so and is quite expensive. It entailed visits to the dentist on 3, 10
and 31 of the month, and she has discovered that it involves some discomfort –
no gain without pain, as they say. There
will be further follow-up visits before the work is complete.
It was
also time for Roger’s annual check-up, which revealed a filling to be
done. A painful damaged nerve followed,
which required a second, more extensive, filling. More short term pain and another big bill.
Roger’s
bowling commitments were many and varied, with league match and club
competitions all continuing apace. The
highlight of the month was the South Worcestershire Triples Gala on Sunday 13 –
a one-day tournament for teams that play in the league. Four years ago, Roger had been drafted into
the team, which unexpectedly won the trophy.
He played again this year, and again the Overbury triple won. For a photograph of the event showing Roger’s
rink in progress click

Jay continues
to visit and ride her pony, Clyde, but, sadly, has given up competitions with
him. The small horse-box which made it
possible has been sold to a couple from Yorkshire, who liked the sound of it,
drove down, and paid cash to take it back with them. The end of an era for Jay, and, of course,
Teresa the driver.

The
weather finally warmed up and we were able to have a few barbecues. We also harvested our second container of
potatoes – a good crop this time, so a technique to be repeated. And for the first time Teresa also grew her
own cucumber, perhaps not to be repeated.
Jay is
also returning to the job of learning to drive.
She is on her third instructor now, but is making progress and a test
has been booked for later in the summer.
Teresa
and Jay had a day with Helen in
(note
the shopping bags)

Strangely
unexplained. Teresa and Jay spotted this
roller coaster being erected in the grounds of Toddington Manor. We can only guess it was to be the star
attraction at an exclusive private event, for no-one in the village seemed to
know of it.
On
Monday 28, we visited Moreton-in-Marsh, which we found very quiet after our
more recent visits on Tuesday – the big market day.
