June

The local steam railway had its annual festival of steam over two weekends in late May/early June.  Teresa and Helen walked over there at the end of May, and Roger and Teresa looked round on Sunday 1 June, when the event was enhanced by a flypast of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Pictures and details of the fly-past

On Tuesday 17, we collected Jay at the end of her first year and after she had taken her Honour Moderations.  A few treats were prepared for her – a partial revamp of her bedroom, including a new bed and window blind.  The old bunk bed was dismantled, its wood providing a few useful additional shelves.  A bathroom cabinet has been promised but not yet selected.

She has also been treated to a new BMX bike.

We have been growing potatoes in containers on the patio.  With amazing timing, the little flowers announcing they were ready appeared the very day Jay arrived home.  Disappointingly the tubers were very small, though fairly numerous, providing a helping for Jay and just a taste for Roger and Teresa.  Otherwise we have done little gardening – some sunflowers and annuals sown in a border, enhanced once again by some seedlings presented to Teresa by the owner of Jay’s stables.  Some of these, at least, are already in bloom.

On Friday 27, Teresa and Jay went to Oxford to do some sight-seeing – there’s never enough time for this on our routine visits.  Not entirely coincidentally, it was the day when the results of Honour Moderations were posted, and, again not entirely by chance, they passed the Examination Schools and looked for the Biology class lists.  To their great surprise but huge delight Jay had taken a First.  Well done, Jay.
