January

Friday 2 – Jay’s birthday, with a few presents still left under the Christmas tree.  Her ‘cake’ was a few pink iced buns, shared with a favourite toy.

Her cards this year reflected fashion not horses.

Monday 5 – the day of her second driving test dawned to a big surprise.  It had snowed, not a lot, but enough to make the side roads unsuitable for driving tests so hers was cancelled.

It caught us out, witness the washing line, but there was just enough for Jay to make a small snowman (which lasted for over a week).

Fortunately, her driving test was rescheduled for Saturday 10, after we all thought that she would have to wait for Easter, meaning a re-take of the theory exam, and another round of lessons.  Luckily, her instructor was free, and, after a further few frantic hours of practice, the test went ahead.  She passed with only a few minor errors.

Here she is returning from her first solo drive.

Look, no plates!  We were able to bin the L-plates just as they were starting to disintegrate with overuse.

A few days later we returned to the local Beefeater to celebrate the success.

Thursday 15 – back to Oxford with Jay.  A packed car again, but even so some important items were left behind, and we found ourselves making an early relief visit on Saturday 17.  This at least gave us all time to look around – especially in Blackwell’s, where we all found something to our liking.  Teresa went back again the following Saturday 24 for some serious shopping with Jay.

Otherwise a cold month offering little opportunity to recoup the huge gas price increases by cutting back on the heating, but Roger is trying, wearing so many extra layers it seems to take an additional hour a day just putting them on and taking them off.
