June
A
particularly busy month of bowls for Roger, with club matches and competitions
in full swing. His Triples team went
almost halfway through the season undefeated, but eventually went down to their
closest rivals to leave it neck and neck at the top of the league table. And the same rivals also took the Triples
Tournament Trophy, a one-day gala competition on Sunday 21, which Overbury had
won for the two previous years. However,
Roger had to cut back on his bowling commitments towards the end of the month,
owing to tendonitis in his left ankle.
Jay
finished her second year at LMH on Friday 26, having taken the first module of
her Finals earlier in the week. However,
she was staying on for some weeks in order to do some project work necessary
for her degree examinations next year.
Though staying on in college, she had to move into a different (and
inferior) room, as all the best accommodation has to be made available for the
lucrative seminars and conferences the colleges run during the long vac. We went up to help her with this, though it
all ended up as a chapter of accidents:
the assigned room, though large, had no en suite, a rickety bed and was
very hot and stuffy – not ideal for the expected heat-wave. Worst of all the network connectivity was
out-of-action, leaving Jay unable to use the internet or her email account. And to cap it all, she found out after her move
that she had missed the induction session for her project work, which had been the
same day. Not a good end to the month for
Jay.
