October
Roger’s indoor bowling season started with wins at
Malvern but defeats at Littleton. Also during the month he audited the Overbury
accounts. At the end of the month there
was a demonstration of short mat bowling in the new Toddington village hall. An encouraging show of interest from the
village, and some very good bowling from the enthusiastic beginners. There was to be a further evening the
following month, after which the prospects for equipping the hall and
establishing a club would have to assessed.
It would be an ideal venue.
On Saturday 10 there was another bowling club quiz,
themed on knowledge of the 1950s to 80s.
Poor Jay had come back for this, but, of course, it wasn’t her
period. But she did do the
scoreboard. We came second, comfortably
behind the winners.
Jay’s visit was really to take a second car load to Oxford on Sunday 11,
after having taken her back from the long vac on Thursday 8. Helen kindly met up with us there to help
with the carrying. We had a short look
round the shops when we had finished, but Oxford was surprisingly busy, and we
couldn’t find a table for the cakes and tea we had promised ourselves, but
found some compensation on the M and S food shelves.
